Register for dog obedience classes
Registration for the next session of dog training classes offered by the Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club (LADOC) began Jan. 3. Classes this session include puppy kindergarten, basic manners, competitive obedience and conformation, plus two new classes, fun nose work and advanced rally obedience. Classes will begin the week of Jan. 17. Class schedule, registration guidelines and registration form are available on the LADOC Web site, http://ladoc.dogbits.com and at the LADOC building, 246 East Road. Registration is first-come, first-served and classes often fill quickly, so timely registration is advised. Registration materials must be postmarked by Jan. 12.
Coordinator needed
Habitat for Humanity of Española Valley and Los Alamos, Inc. needs a volunteer coordinator. The volunteer coordinator needs to possess good computer skills as well as enjoy working directly with Habitat for Humanity Volunteers. Tickets still available
Tickets are on sale for the 2nd annual Community Assets/Spirit of the West Award. The event will be at 7 p.m. Jan. 8 at the Best Western Hilltop House Hotel. Tickets can be reserved by calling 661-4846, no tickets will be available at the door. This event is sponsored by Assets In Action, the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce and the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board.

The Los Alamos Photography Club is hosting its 16th annual show Jan. 31-Feb. 26 at the Mesa Public Library. Photographers of any skill level (beginner, amateur, or professional) of high school age or older, who live or work in Los Alamos County, are eligible to enter. $1 donations needed
The Los Alamos High School Key Club is collecting $1 donations to mail shoes to foreign countries, which will help children receive an education and cut down on disease. High school student Anna Carroll is working to change the world with the help of the schools, community and the Kiwanis club.
