Dear Editor,
When you’ve dug out of the latest snowstorm, mark this Thursday at 7 p.m. on your calendar to start the new year right.
Two important community institutions are having elections: first the School Bond election, followed closely by the School Board and UNM-LA Advisory Board election.
Thursday evening at the UNM-LA Lecture Hall (in Building 1 on the left at the top of the steps) is your chance to hear a discussion of the pros and cons of the bond issue and to meet the candidates.
Candidates for the School Board are both from the White Rock districts: Thelma Hahn for District 1 (roughly the Pinon School area) and Melanie McKinley for District 2 (roughly the Chamisa School area).
UNM-LA Advisory Board candidates are Ron Dolin for Position 1, Micheline Devaurs for Position 2, and Nelson Hoffman for Position 5.
The format for the candidates’ part of the evening will be statements from candidates followed by questions from the audience.
School bond speakers are Steve Girrens (pro) and Richard Hannemann (con) and again questions from the audience are invited.
