Column on Christmas foolish, bigoted

Dear Editor,Whenever I see another “There is a War on Christmas” or “Christianity is the Best Religion” banner raised by the media, I shrug it off as Bill O’Reilly, Ann Coulter and their kin trying to squeeze a few more Nielsen points out of their audience. However, when the same is the theme of a diatribe by the editor of my hometown newspaper, this is more than I can take.Your assertion that no faiths but Christianity fund hospitals in poor nations is patently false, as a minimal amount of research would uncover. There are “countless shelters, food programs, elderly care efforts and assistance programs as the result of caring Christians” but also the result of Muslims, Hindus, Agnostics, Atheists, even it-is-none-of-your-business-types. The reason you may not notice these efforts is that their focus may be on providing care, not acquiring credit for their work. The next time you go visit a food bank, ask them whether they track, know, or even care whether their contributors are Christian.Why couldn’t (or shouldn’t) Atheists support Christian-led organizations, and vice versa, if they do a competent job?I admit this is a harsh accusation, but the bottom line is that your column was bigoted and divisive.
