The National Weather Service has issued the following statement:

COLD AND SNOW MOVING INTO NORTHERN NEW MEXICO WEDNESDAY THROUGH THURSDAY MORNING...

EASTBOUND PACIFIC MOISTURE WILL COLLIDE OVER NORTHERN AND EASTERN NEW MEXICO WITH SOUTHBOUND COLD AIR OUT OF THE INTERMOUNTAIN REGION TO PRODUCE SNOW AND BRING A COLD BLAST TO MUCH OF THE STATE. THIS WINTRY WEATHER TURN WILL CONTINUE THROUGH THURSDAY.

RAIN SHOWERS OVER NORTHERN NEW MEXICO TONIGHT WILL CHANGE OVER TO SNOW BY WEDNESDAY MORNING... WITH RAIN AND SNOW EXPANDING ACROSS THE NORTHERN MOUNTAINS AND SANGRE DE CRISTO RANGE BY WEDNESDAY EVENING. AS COLDER AIR BLASTS SOUTHWARD THROUGH THE DAY WEDNESDAY... FALLING SNOW LEVELS WILL CHANGE RAIN OVER TO SNOW... AND EXPAND RAIN AND SNOW COVERAGE TO INCLUDE THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN... THE INTERSTATE 25 CORRIDOR FROM SANTA FE TO THE COLORADO LINE... AND THE SLOPES AND SUMMITS OF THE CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN. FORECASTS CALL FOR HEAVIEST ACCUMULATIONS MAINLY ABOVE 7500 FEET.

BELOW SNOW LEVEL... MOST LOWER SLOPES AND VALLEYS WILL RECEIVE AN INCREASINGLY CHILLY RAIN AS COLDER AIR TAKES HOLD. GUSTY EAST WINDS WILL DEVELOP THROUGH CENTRAL MOUNTAIN CHAIN GAPS AND GUST OVER THE RIO GRANDE VALLEY OVERNIGHT WEDNESDAY. TEMPERATURE DROPS MAY PRODUCE THE FIRST ROUND OF OVERNIGHT FREEZING CONDITIONS IN THE SANTA FE METRO AREA... AND OVER THE EASTERN PLAINS FROM THE INTERSTATE 40 CORRIDOR NORTHWARD.

THE WINTER STORM WILL MAKE A HASTY DEPARTURE THURSDAY WITH LINGERING RAIN AND SNOW SHOWERS OVER EASTERN NEW MEXICO ENDING BY THURSDAY NIGHT.
