GOLF: 2010 champ Griffith finishes 2nd, Stam shoots 71 Sunday

John Stam had the second-low round of the entire tournament Sunday to get himself back in contention in the senior men’s City Championship, but Brian Colby held on to take the 2011 title.
Colby won a playoff over 2010 senior men’s champion Reid Griffith to take the 2011 City title. Colby and Griffith both finished with a two-day total of 150 shots.
Following Saturday’s first day of the tournament, Colby was down one stroke to Griffith, but pulled even with Griffith Sunday with his round of 76. Griffith finished with a 77 Sunday.
Right behind the top two finishers, Stam made things plenty interesting. Stam, who had a day one 81, caught fire on day two, coming in with a 1-under 71. Only he and men’s overall champion Curt Norman broke par either day.
Despite the low overall round in the flight, Stam couldn’t catch the two leaders. He finished with a 152 overall to take third place.
Griffith, who came back from two shots down in 2010, had the day one lead after shooting a 73 Saturday, the low round in any flight. Colby, however, fired a 74, which was tied for second-best among all players in the tournament.

Here are the results from the 2011 City Championship senior men’s flight:

Brian Colby 74-76—150
