ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is again postponing the reopening of Cochiti Lake.
The lake and surrounding recreation areas were shut down June 29 because of the Las Conchas fire. Campgrounds, nearby pueblo schools and other facilities are being used to house and feed some 1,200 firefighters still battling the massive blaze.
Officials say all of Cochiti Lake's public use sites -- including its campgrounds docks, boat ramps, picnic areas, swimming locations and the nearby golf course - will remain shut until July 26.
Recreation users who made prior reservations for the facilities at Cochiti Lake may contact the National Recreation Reservation Service for refunds.
