The Los Alamos Co-op Market opened for business at noon Wednesday. It was a “soft” opening to allow for final details to be completed before the official grand opening, which will be announced soon.
The co-op will be open 7 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Sunday.
“The mission of the Cooperative is to serve Los Alamos County and surrounding communities by providing fairly priced, wholesome foods and other goods in an ecologically sustainable, socially responsible, and economically appropriate manner,” according to a statement posted on the market’s website.
The Cooperative is capitalized by lifetime memberships, member loans, and member investment. More than 270 households have signed up as founding lifetime members, and about 170 households have also become charter annual members.
The Co-op is incorporated as a “domestic cooperative association” under New Mexico Law.
The market is located at Entrada Business Park near the Holiday Inn Express just east of town.
