Food, fellowship and fun will be had by all at the United Church this weekend. Church members will display their talents, not only for the church, but for the community, too.
The Shared Ministry Fair will begin its fun at 10:30 a.m. Sunday and there will be special activities to keep little hands and minds busy while parents visit with church members. The event plans to showcase the many opportunities of shared ministries both in the local and world communities and the church.
“A service to the church or the community which is motivated by our personal gifts and passions is a real gift to both the receiver and the giver,” said Pat Slentz, director of Shared Ministries. “In discovering where we are called to serve, we find greater meaning and purpose for our lives.”
Slentz’s goal is to illustrate that each person is blessed with unique gifts and talents and that by identifying and using those gifts, individuals often discover their passions, which open the door to service.
“I believe that God calls us to serve out of those passions,” Slentz said, who finds it especially important when things at work or home may be discouraging or stressful.
Displays at the fair will include individual ministries with LA Cares, Kiwanis, Rotary, Nuclear Arms Control, county government, the Juvenile Justice Advisory Board, Senior RSVP programs, animal rescue, Singles with Soul and other community ministries.
Naturally, the church will also have its programs on display so that community members can learn more about what the church has to offer to not only its members, but anyone looking to find a church home. These areas include; the church’s thrift shop ministry, the library, upcoming Christian education classes, Children’s Worship and Godly Play, youth group activities, live music, gardening, care ministries, missions and many other ministries of the church.
