Temporary changes will begin Friday

By Special to the Monitor

Los Alamos Medical Center (LAMC) is entering the final phase of its renovation project. Visitors should be aware of some upcoming temporary changes:

• Carpet installation began Monday on the first floor and will continue throughout the week. All work is being done at night starting at 6 p.m. and finishing no later than 5 a.m. each day.

• Elevator entrance closures on the first floor will also be scheduled during installation of ceramic tile beginning at 9 p.m. Friday and continuing through 5 p.m. Saturday.

• Patients and visitors are urged to follow signage and crew direction during these times.

• House supervisors will oversee patient transport as appropriate.

In addition, repaving of the parking lot outside the new Physical Therapy and Cardiac Rehabilitation unit will be done in the near future.

This is entirely weather dependent and so will necessitate very short notice (24 hours or less) for closure of the parking lot.

Patients and visitors should be aware of this impending project and obey signage and directions as provided by work crews.

All other phases of the project are now complete and the hospital plans an open house for community residents to view the upgrades.

“We feel very fortunate that LAMC was able to finish these capital improvements,” said Interim Chief Executive Officer Ruth McDaniel. “During these hard economic times, many health systems have had to curtail construction projects, but with the support of LifePoint Hospitals, we now have a facility of which Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico can be very proud. We encourage the community to watch for our invitation to the open house.”

LAMC is part of LifePoint Hospitals, a leading hospital company focused on providing quality healthcare services close to home. Through its subsidiaries, LifePoint operates 47 acute-care facilities in 17 states.

With a mission of “Making communities healthier,” LifePoint is the sole community hospital provider in 44 of the communities it serves.
