I had an interesting inquiry recently from a local citizen wanting to understand the relationship between the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce and the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.
The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce is an entirely distinct and independent entity from either the state or national Chamber of Commerce.
Our primary goals are improving the business environment for our members and building a stronger community. We ended our membership in the U.S. Chamber a couple of years ago when it became apparent that the interests of the national chamber were no longer aligning well with our local concerns and interests.
Our chamber does not contribute to nor endorse individual candidates for public office. We do perform advocacy work on behalf of positions that we think benefit our members and the larger community.
Our members are businesses, non-profit organizations, clubs and individuals who care deeply about the future of our community and who are investing their time and resources into collective action for a better community. Through their membership, they support many activities and initiatives that are aimed at making our community a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
When you see the Los Alamos Chamber member decal at a business, you can be confident that you are patronizing an establishment that has made a strong commitment to our community.
The Los Alamos chamber is the membership program of Los Alamos Commerce and Development Corporation. Our other programs include Los Alamos MainStreet, the Los Alamos Meeting & Visitor Bureau, the UNM-LA Small Business Development Center and Los Alamos Research Park.
