Celebrating milestones

It’s cleanup time for the Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church congregation. However, it won’t be all work and no play; the graduates from elementary, middle and high schools will be honored during the 10:30 a.m. service Sunday.

During the service, the Rev. Colin Kelly said the graduates stand up to be recognized and receive a gift. High school graduating seniors also tell what their plans are for after graduation.

“We like to honor rites of passage,” Kelly said. He explained that moments where God is present, such as at baptisms, confirmations and marriages, are celebrated at the church.

Other significant moments include moving up from one grade to another, Kelly said. Elementary school students who advance into middle school are leaving the world they grew up in and walking into new territory, he said, while graduating high school seniors are moving on to the workforce, vocational school or college. They are becoming independent.

“We like to honor these moments and mark them with prayer ee and remind them that God is with them in that journey,” Kelly said. “And (we) pray God will go before them ee to prepare the way.”

No matter where or what these graduates do, he added, a strong prayer community is always there for them.
