There is no need to spend Easter alone. Locals are encouraged to socialize with their fellow residents during the Newcomers and Neighbors Annual Easter Party from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. There will be a lunch, Easter craft for kids and an Easter egg hunt.Club president Melissa Gillispie-Blair said the purpose behind of the event is to just have fun and enjoy what the community has to offer. This is something the club strives to do year-round. Whether it’s meeting up at the pool or babysitting children while their parents run errands, Newcomers and Neighbors offers opportunities for people to get acquainted. “It’s a great thing to meet your neighbors ee it’s just a great way to get out and meet new people,” Gillispie-Blair said.Neighbors and Newcomers started 30 years ago, she said; a bunch of people decided that a club was needed to make it easier to contact the community.Members work to promote the community and keep it strong, Gillispie-Blair said.Currently, 40 families are members of the club.Although the club has a long history in Los Alamos, it is starting a few new activities. They are offering a knitting club, a bongo group and a scrapbook group. The knitting group will conduct its first meeting from 7-8:30 p.m. March 31 at Mesa Public Library.
