Catch the reading bug this summer

-A A +A
By Special to the Monitor

Think reading is just for kids? Now that is just silly. Back by popular demand, the Los Alamos County Libraries will have a summer reading program not only for kids and teens, but for adults, too.

Every year, the New Mexico State Library has a different theme for the Summer Reading program and children are invited to keep track of how long they read or listen to books to enjoy and win prizes.

This year, the theme is “Catch the Reading Bug!” for younger kids and “Metamorphosis” for teens.

Now, adults can have fun reading, win prizes and make their opinions known about what they read, too. The adult summer reading program starts Monday; just come by the reference desk at Mesa Public Library to pick up a bag full of goodies to get started. The children’s summer reading sign up started Sunday, check with Youth Services at 662-8258 for all the details.

The official kick-off event for summer reading will be at 7 p.m. June 16 at Mesa Public Library with the magician Jamie O’Hara.

The libraries are encouraging adults to sign up for the program by offering prizes for each three books read and each three book reviews turned in.
