The Valles Caldera Board of Trustees named Dr. Tim Haarmann Interim Executive Director of the Valles Caldera Trust Monday. Haarmann will be in charge of day-to-day operations until the board selects a permanent Executive Director.
The board will conduct a nationwide search to find a qualified replacement for former Executive Director Dennis Trujillo who retired Jan. 3.
Haarmann is currently Operations Division Director on the Valles Caldera National Preserve. He is responsible for management of programs including recreation, environmental education, interpretation, facilities, roads, grazing and rangeland management.
“The board is pleased to select Dr. Haarmann as interim executive director,” said board chairman, Kent Salazar.
“He brings a wealth of knowledge and natural resource management experience to the position.”
Haarmann has a BS in Zoology from Brigham Young University and a PhD in Biology (emphasis in Ecosystem Ecology) from the University of New Mexico. Haarmann has 21 years experience in natural resources management including the last five years with the trust.
“I am honored by the confidence the board has placed in me,” Haarmann said. “It is my primary job to make sure we ready the preserve for the spring season and strengthen the organization for the new executive director.”
