Los Alamos School of Gymnastics’ three optional gymnasts gave a solid finish to their season at the New Mexico State Championships March 17 in Albuquerque.
Senior Luvina Lucero gave her best performance of the season, taking gold on balance beam, finishing with a final score of 9.375. Lucero took bronze overall with her score of 35.225.
In the junior age division, Katya Skurikhin earned silver on vault (9.250) and took sixth place overall (35.425) against tough competition.
The Atomic Tumblers’ only Level 8, Annika Bronkhorst, also finished with a season high. She placed second on floor exercise (9.05) and third on bars (8.80). Her total score of 35.175 earned her the bronze all-around and qualified her to represent New Mexico at the USAG Level 8 Regional Championship in Kansas later this spring.
