Broadway and opera music to be heard Saturday

Coro de Cmara will present its spring concert this weekend as the final performance of its 25th anniversary season. “Opera and Sondheim: Choruses from the Opera and Broadway Stages” features as guest soloists three opera singers with local ties to New Mexico. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the United Church in Los Alamos.Additionally, a concert will be held at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at the Scottish Rite Masonic Center in Santa Fe.Soloist Rena Harms, soprano; Natasha Flores, mezzo-soprano; and Tim Willson, tenor; have performed with the Santa Fe, Los Angeles, Metropolitan and San Francisco Opera companies. They will join Coro de Cmara in choruses from “Dido and Aeneas,” “Carmen,” “La Traviata,” and Mozart’s “Idomeneo.” Other composers featured in the first half of the concert are Giacomo Puccini, Gaetano Donizetti, Gioachino Rossini and G.F. Handel.Harms returns home to Santa Fe for these performances. She is a former Santa Fe Opera apprentice, and is the daughter of Cora Harms, a previous director of Coro de Cmara. She and Flores, another former apprentice, are currently members of the Domingo-Thornton Young Artist Program at the Los Angeles Opera.“This is the first time that we have done a collaboration with the Santa Fe Opera,” said Jan Watson, Coro de Cmara board president.
