K of C announces local contest winners

The Los Alamos chapter of the Knights of Columbus will send 9 boys and girls to the district level free throw competition.

Los Alamos’ K of C held its local competition Jan. 31 at Griffith Gymnasium. The top shooters in each age and gender division will participate in the district contest Feb. 28 at Santa Cruz Elementary School.

The competition was open to all boys and girls ages 10-14. All participants were given 15 free throw opportunities, with ties settled by successive rounds of 5 free throws per contestant until a winner was determined.

The winners at district will move on to compete at the state level.

Leonard, Birnbaum win at ski competition

Charlotte Leonard and Serena Birnbaum won both giant slalom runs at a ski competition at Angel Fire this past weekend.

Leonard, competing in the J4 girls division, took first in both of her runs for the Los Alamos Ski Racing Team, while Birnbaum won both her runs in the J5 division.

Other top finishers for the ski racing team included Jacob Holesinger (third and fourth, J4 boys), Gabriel Holesinger (third and fifth, J5 boys), Owen Cespon (fifth and seventh, J6 boys) and Aidan McCleskey (sixth and seventh, J6 boys).

’Topes hosting job fair

The Albuquerque Isotopes will host their eighth annual job fair Saturday in Albuquerque. The job fair will be held at Isotopes Park starting at 10 a.m.

Both the Isotopes, the Triple-A farm team of the Los Angeles Dodgers, and Ovations Food Services will be hiring for the 2010 season. The Isotopes will be hiring for game-day positions such as ticket sellers, parking attendants, grounds crewmembers and others, while Ovations will be hiring for food service workers and warehouse staff.
