Plame, SGR to appear
On Tuesday, Aug. 12, women from across the state will join to celebrate Los Alamos’ Rep. Stephanie Garcia Richard, with special guest Valerie Plame.
Plame is a former career covert CIA operations officer, who worked to protect America’s national security and prevent the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction, in particular nuclear weapons.
Plame is the author of the New York Times best-selling memoir Fair Game: My Life as a Spy, My Betrayal by the White House, which was released as a major motion picture of the same name starring Sean Penn and Naomi Watts. She also narrated and appeared in the critically acclaimed documentary on the dangers of nuclear proliferation, Countdown to Zero. She is an active member of the Global Zero Leadership board.
Plame does extensive public speaking throughout the country on various issues including nuclear proliferation and the role of women in intelligence. She has written for Newsweek, CNN, The Daily Beast, The Huffington Post, The Guardian, and various other media outlets. She now lives in Santa Fe with her two children and her husband, retired U.S. Ambassador Joe Wilson.
All women are invited to attend and enjoy an evening of conversation, as we honor women in office and the importance of strong women role models. The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. Aug.12 at the home of Marvel Harrison located at 199 San Ildefonso Road in Los Alamos.
