A fire broke out early this morning at 945 La Mesa in the La Mesa Mobile Home Park.
The call came in at 7:08 a.m. alerting the Los Alamos Fire Department that the home was on fire. Capt. Paul Grano led the response conducted by his crew from Station 4 near the golf course.
“The fire occurred in a mobile home, which is more difficult to maintain because it tends to burn much more rapidly,” said Los Alamos Assistant Fire Chief/Fire Marshall Mike Thompson. “The fact that our firefighters were able to contain the fire in the heater room and restroom area of the home speaks to the excellent job they did.”
As soon as the fire was under control, crew members moved through the home opening windows and doors to ventilate and minimize smoke damage, Thompson said.
LAFD Driver Engineer Don Hunter is leading the investigation into the cause and origin of the fire.
At this point in the investigation, Thompson said the findings indicate the fire started in a water heater and does not appear to be suspicious in nature.
