Steger – Brandy Field Steger, 83 La Costa, passed away quietly Thursday night June 5, 2008, of complications from a stroke suffered in early May. Born Joyce Field Wegner July 30, 1924, in Elmira, N.Y., she attended Stephens College in the early 1940s then went on to pursue a successful career in acting (using the Actor’s Equity name Brandy Field) including Broadway touring and summer stock, community theater, TV and radio (including her own morning talk show, “Coffee with Brandy”). She met her husband of nearly 53 years, Bill Steger, Easter Sunday in 1955. They were engaged within 10 days and married three months later. They spent many happy years in Los Alamos, N.M., and Boulder, Colo., raising their two sons before moving to San Diego in 1978. Keeping active in the entertainment field and her second love, bridge (attaining Lifemaster standing) would have been enough for most. Brandy, however, opened Gems of La Costa jewelry store on her 60th birthday and operated it with her sons for five years. Her retirement years were spent playing bridge, traveling, and cruising the world with her husband and friends. No matter how busy her careers and pastimes, she always made time for her family and friends, never knew a stranger, and poured out her love to all.
