Bradbury takes program outside museum

-A A +A
By The Staff

Hoping to expand the visibility and scope of the Bradbury Science Museum, Linda Deck was hired in August. With experience at the Smithsonian and other top museums, Los Alamos National Laboratory – which funds the museum – hired Deck to move the facility forward.Speaking to the Rotary Club of Los Alamos on Thursday at Fuller Lodge, Deck told the group that the mission of the museum had three main facets.“It is to explain the mission of the lab, it is to educate and it is to preserve the history of the laboratory,” Deck said. She said that there are many missions of the museum and its exhibits. The museum itself is devoted to the history of the lab, to history of its defense mission and to research. But besides welcoming some 80,000 people a year to tour the site, they go out to the region with the Science on Wheels van.“We visited 62 schools last year and saw almost 8,000 students,” Deck said of the Wheels program. But one of the best things about the museum and what it does is that it’s free.“Everything we do at the museum is free and open to the public,” Deck said. The museum participates in many community activities, from Trick or Treat on MainStreet to Pi Day, a totally unique Los Alamos event held every March 14 (3.14).And there’s more.
