To open its 2008 campaign, the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys tennis team split a pair of team contests Saturday.Los Alamos knocked off Sandia 6-3 but fell 6-3 to Rio Rancho at Saturday’s Rio Rancho Invitational. Both its opponents are Class AAAAA teams.Hilltopper boys head coach Giri Raichur said all his players except number one single Patrick Raichur played up a spot and performed well at the opener.Los Alamos split the six singles matches but swept the doubles contests against Sandia’s Matadors, and had an even split against Rio Rancho’s singles, but were swept in doubles competition.Los Alamos’ main goal in its first contest of the season was to get all 14 of its players — including four junior varsity players — matches.Raichur said he was very pleased with the singles players, but the doubles lineup is still being worked out.Los Alamos heads to the Carlsbad Invitational starting Friday and continuing through Saturday.
