Boys tennis: LA is dominant at Bosque invite

With the District 2AAAA championship tournament looming, the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys tennis team is playing at a high level.

This weekend, Los Alamos won the Bosque School Triangular, decisively topping a pair of solid teams along the way. Los Alamos knocked off host Bosque, 8-1, then topped Farmington also by an 8-1 count.

Also this weekend, the Hilltoppers thumped District 2AAAA foe Capital in a makeup contest, shutting out the Jaguars 9-0.

The 2AAAA tournament starts Friday and continues through Saturday at Taos’ Quail Ridge Inn. Los Alamos will be the odds-on favorite to win the 2009 district championship, although the homestanding Taos Tigers gave the Hilltoppers all they could handle in a late March date at Taos.

At Bosque School, Adam Laredo, a solid A-AAA player, came back from a set down to defeat Hilltopper No. 1 single Patrick Raichur in a tiebreaker.

Beyond that and a first-set win by No. 2 Rand Briggs, who had to retire from his match with Matt Whicker due to injury, the Hilltoppers didn’t lose another set in the contest. Ben Havemann, Stephen Townsley Chase Havemann and Dominic Lucido, Los Alamos’ 3-6 players, each won in straight sets, with Chase Havemann and Lucido pitching shutouts in both their contests.
