The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys soccer team split the final two games of the Albuquerque Academy Invitational this weekend.
The Hilltoppers fell to the Oñate Knights in the second round of the tournament before bouncing back to beat the Hope Christian Huskies in the final round. The win over the Huskies gave the Hilltoppers a seventh-place finish in the tournament.
Los Alamos is back in action today again at Academy. It will take on Academy’s Chargers, last week’s top-ranked team in Class AAAA this afternoon.
After dropping their opening round game at Academy, a 1-0 loss to Rio Rancho, Los Alamos fell to Oñate in the teams’ first consolation bracket game. Los Alamos dropped into the seventh place game where it topped Hope, 2-1.
The Academy Invitational is one of the most prestigious regular season tournaments held in the state.
Academy (5-2) won its tournament this weekend, topping Rio Rancho 3-1 in the final.
Los Alamos (4-3) and Academy renew their longstanding rivalry with today’s game. Los Alamos topped Academy 5-3 at Sullivan Field last season, its marquee win of that season.
