The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys soccer team was routed at home by the La Cueva Bears Tuesday.
The Bears, an elite squad from Class 5A, knocked off the Hilltoppers 4-0 at Sullivan Field.
La Cueva (7-0) is the top-ranked club in Class 5A this week and is the defending Class 5A champion two years running.
Los Alamos (5-6), meanwhile, dropped its fourth contest in its last five outings. Prior to Tuesday’s game, Los Alamos lost two contests at the Albuquerque Academy Invitational — 2-0 to Rio Rancho and 1-0 to Sandia Prep — before bouncing back in the seventh-place game to top Oñate 4-0.
The Hilltoppers have a critical game scheduled for Friday when they host the Albuquerque Academy Chargers. The Chargers and the Hilltoppers are long-standing rivals and Friday’s game could carry weight in terms of seeding for the Class AAAA postseason.
