The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys soccer team picked up a first-place vote in the first poll conducted by NMSoccer.com.

In the first poll of 2010, the Hilltoppers finished third, picking up 31 total points. Voting for this week concluded Sunday.

Not surprisingly, St. Pius X was the consensus No. 1 pick in Class AAAA heading into the season, which opened for several schools around the state Monday. St. Pius, which has won seven of the last eight Class AAAA state championships, garnered four first-place nods and 48 total points, placing it three points ahead of Albuquerque Academy.

Only St. Pius, Academy and Los Alamos garnered first-place votes in the coaches’ poll.

Defending state champ Farmington, which knocked off Los Alamos 3-0 in the 2009 finale, finished fifth in the first poll.

The Hilltoppers will open their 2010 season Thursday against the Rio Rancho Rams.
