ALBUQUERQUE — In the first round of the Albuquerque Academy Invitational, the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys soccer team was blanked by the Mayfield Trojans.
Mayfield scored twice in the first half Thursday and added another goal in the second half to top the Hilltoppers 3-0 in the tournament’s first round.
Joshua Quintana, Trevor Gibbons and AJ Marquez all scored for the Class AAAAA Trojans in Thursday’s first round contest.
The Trojans are currently ranked second in Class AAAAA. They advance in the championship bracket to take on Sandia Prep today.
Los Alamos, meanwhile, slipped into the consolation bracket. The Hilltoppers take on the Farmington Scorpions, whom they topped 5-1 Aug. 29 in the Louie Cernicek Memorial tournament.
Today’s game is set for 2:30 p.m.
In other first round games at the tournament, the host Academy Chargers thumped Hope Christian 4-0, Rio Rancho doubled-up Las Cruces 6-3 and Sandia Prep earned an overtime victory over Farmington 2-1.
Win or lose today, Los Alamos will play at 8 a.m. Saturday.
