Boys No. 1 doubles earns pair of wins

The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys tennis doubles squad of Nikita Belooussov/Dalton Smith picked up a pair of wins in consolation play Saturday.
Los Alamos competed in the Española Valley Invitational, played at Santa Fe High School. Los Alamos’ players picked up at least one win in the three singles and two doubles draws at the tournament
Belooussov/Smith knocked off Garrett Howington/Lane Heisey of Hope Christian and Miguel Tarango/Jacob Romero of Monte del Sol in its final two contests to earn a win in the consolation side of the bracket. Belooussov/Smith came back from a 1-set deficit against Allen Palmer/Marcus Hofer-Curl of Taos, but Palmer/Hofer-Curl would rally to win the third set tiebreaker.
Hilltopper No. 1 single Forrest White split contests, topping Griffin Merians of Santa Fe Prep 6-2, 7-5, but falling to Farmington’s Matt With 6-4, 6-1. George Margevicius went 1-2 at No. 2 singles, while eighth grader JD Downing topped Bryan Rivera of Española Valley in a third-set tiebreaker.
At No. 2 doubles, Steven McCrory/Cameron Wilson went 1-2, topping Jared Lucero/Harsch Bhundiya of Santa Fe Prep in the first round of consolation play.
