The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys golf team opened its season in solid fashion Monday morning.
The Hilltoppers took second place in team standings at Monday’s East Mountain Invitational, held at Paa-Ko Ridge Golf Course near Edgewood.
Los Alamos finished runner-up in the standings to the defending A-AAA state champion St. Michael’s Horsemen.
The Horsemen finished with 316 shots at the tough Paa-Ko Ridge course, while Los Alamos earned a score of 380. Moriarty finished in third place Monday, collecting 385 strokes.
Individually, the Hilltoppers were paced by senior Henry Stam, who finished with an 89.
Following Stam was Thomas Herrera, who carded a 92.
Woody Moss finished with a 99 Monday for the Hilltoppers, while Tim Branch shot 100 and Tanner Vaughn finished with a 105.
Los Alamos has four other tournaments scheduled for its fall 2009 season. The prep golf season is played both in the fall and in the spring, culminating in the state championship tournaments in May.
Los Alamos will host its home fall invitational Sept. 21 at Los Alamos Golf Course — tee time is 9 a.m. Following the home tournament, Los Alamos will play at Bernalillo Oct. 1, St. Michael’s Oct. 5 and West Mesa Oct. 20.
