The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys golf team finished third at Monday’s Santa Fe Invitational tournament.
Los Alamos finished with a team total of 352 strokes at Monday’s tournament. It was the team’s final tournament of the 2011 regular season. Los Alamos will host the District 2-4A tournament Monday.
The Santa Fe Invitational, which included nine teams from around the area, was won by the Bernalillo Spartans, one of the teams Los Alamos will have to beat at the district tournament next week in order to qualify for the Class 4A state tournament.
Bernalillo, which is the two-time defending 2-4A champion, finished with a 332 to earn the team title Monday. Raton finished second with a 345 while Los Alamos held off Bosque by one shot to take third.
All five District 2-4A teams competed at the tournament. Santa Fe finished fifth (360), Española Valley was sixth (382) and Capital finished ninth (439).
The tournament was the second in a row where Los Alamos finished behind Bernalillo. Bernalillo won the April 19 Los Alamos Spring Invitational while the Hilltoppers finished third in that tournament as well.
Joe Apache was the individual medalist, taking his second individual win in three weeks. He shot a 4-over 76 to win.
Los Alamos was once again paced by senior Thomas Herrera, who shot an 82.
Behind Herrera, three Hilltoppers — Tim Branch, Jin Park and Jonnie Osden — finished with scores of 90, while Brett Snow had a 101. Alexie Appert, playing as an individual, had a 96 in Monday’s competition.
