The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team made a push in the fourth quarter to get back into the ballgame, but fell short Wednesday night.
In its 2010-11 regular season finale, Los Alamos lost to the Capital Jaguars 47-39 at Griffith Gymnasium. Los Alamos finishes the regular season in fourth place in the District 2AAAA standings and will play in the opening round district tournament game Monday.
The Hilltoppers finish the season with a record of 6-19 and were 2-6 in District 2AAAA play.
Nick Baker had 16 points Wednesday to lead all scorers, while Thomas Russell and Bobby Sanders combined for 20 points, but only one other Hilltopper, Nate Carver, found the basket.
Capital was led by Mike Lopez’s 12 points.
Barring a major upset by Bernalillo Saturday against Española Valley — and that’s only if Bernalillo beat Santa Fe Wednesday, that result that hadn’t been reported as of press time — Los Alamos will host Monday’s first round game against the Spartans. Los Alamos beat Bernalillo twice in 2AAAA play.
The Jaguars (15-7, 5-2 in district) officially locked up the runner-up spot in the district, finishing behind regular season champion Española Valley. They swept the season series with the Hilltoppers.
