At the 3:44 mark of the first quarter the score was Alex Kirk 9, Farmington nothing.Farmington’s situation didn’t improve throughout the duration of the game. The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys varsity basketball team was an ungracious host to the Farmington Scorpions Saturday, knocking off the Scorpions 62-38 Saturday afternoon in Griffith Gymnasium.Kirk, Los Alamos’ 6-foot, 9-inch center, outscored Farmington 13-8 in the first half. Farmington, in the midst of a rebuilding season, simply had no answer for Kirk in the first half, who in just his sophomore season has emerged as one of the premier big men in the state.Kirk took a good chunk of the second half off Saturday, but still finished with 19 points to lead all scorers, just a day after dropping in 21 against Del Norte.Saturday afternoon’s win came on the heels of a big 77-51 win on the road over the hapless Del Norte Knights. The two wins this weekend served two big purposes. The first was snapping a four-game skid by the ’Toppers, their longest losing streak of the season.
