The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team will open the Ben Lujan Invitational Tournament Thursday night against Cimarron.
The Ben Lujan Invitational is in its ninth consecutive year. It is hosted by the Pojoaque Elks.
The tournament continues through Saturday. All games will be played at Ben Lujan Gymnasium in Jacona.
Los Alamos (6-3) heads into the tournament on its first losing streak of the season. It dropped its final two games at the Joe Armijo Invitational last weekend after an opening round victory over Albuquerque Academy.
Should the Hilltoppers get past Cimarron Thursday, they would likely see the host Elks in the second round Friday night. The Elks play the Dulce Hawks in Thursday’s first round.
Cimarron (1-1) is a Class A school, but has very good height for a small school with three roster players listed at 6-foot-2 or above, including 6-6 center Jake Arko.
Here is the bracket for the Ben Lujan Invitational.
Socorro vs. Peñasco, noon.
Mesa Vista vs. Grants, 4:30 p.m.
Cimarron vs. Los Alamos, 7:30 p.m.
Dulce vs. Pojoaque, 8:45 p.m.
Cimarron-Los Alamos loser vs. Dulce-Pojoaque loser, 1 p.m.
Socorro-Peñasco loser vs. Mesa Vista-Grants loser, 2:30 p.m.
