The Los Alamos Hilltopper boys basketball team fell in an important game against one of its chief rivals Tuesday night.
Los Alamos faced off against former District 2AAAA foe St. Pius X in a big Class 4A contest, but wound up on the short end of a 46-27 decision at St. Sebastian Gymnasium.
The loss was the third straight and fourth in the last five contests for the Hilltoppers (4-12), who have been held to under 40 points for each of the four losses on the current slide.
With the start of what is shaping up to be a brutal District 2AAAA season only a week away, Los Alamos was looking for a momentum-gainer with its trip to St. Pius.
However, the Sartans (5-8) went into Tuesday’s contest in a similar situation, struggling through nondistrict season up to this point and needing to catch fire before their District 5AAAA season starts. The Sartans won their fourth game in five outings with Tuesday’s victory.
Prior to its district opener, Los Alamos still has big home contests set for Thursday, against Pojoaque, and Saturday against Sandia.
