Alex Kirk picked up a triple-double Saturday to lead the Los Alamos Hilltopper varsity boys basketball team to an impressive road win.Kirk, the 6-foot-9 sophomore post for the Hilltoppers, scored a whopping 30 points, grabbed 14 rebounds and rejected 10 shots Saturday afternoon as the ’Toppers earned a 72-64 victory against the Silver Fighting Colts in Silver City. The season-high point total for Kirk came just three days after he earned a season-low seven points — although he helped out in other ways, not the least of which was dishing out nine assists — on the road at Belen.Saturday’s win was Los Alamos’ fourth straight victory on the road, and a good win heading into the always-tough Ben Lujan Invitational this weekend.Along with Kirk’s game-high 30, Nik Allen had another solid showing following his monster game against Belen. Allen added 19 points of his own, as well as handing out six assists and picking up three steals. With Saturday’s win, which puts Los Alamos at 6-1 on the season, coach Alan Kirk said things are definitely starting to move in the right direction.“I’m real happy with the effort,” Kirk said. “Looking at the number of kids contributing, taking the whole team, a lot of things are gelling. Our up-and-down game, we’re moving, we’re starting to take better shots.
