Just a little over a year after conducting a search for a new boys basketball head coach, Los Alamos High School will have to conduct another.

Los Alamos athletic director Vicki Nelms confirmed Wednesday that boys basketball coach Matt King had resigned his post. King will become the new boys head coach at Clovis High School.

King, whose first head coaching job was with Los Alamos, had stressed commitment to the Hilltopper program as one of his core values, but leaves just a little over 13 months after accepting the job.

Nelms said the search for a new head coach will start as soon as it’s practical, given the situation with the Las Conchas Fire. She said she’d already gotten several calls and e-mails of coaches inquiring about the position.

Under King, Los Alamos finished the 2010-11 season with a record of 7-21 and was knocked out of the District 2-4A playoffs in the quarterfinals by Santa Fe.
