The Los Alamos Beer Co-op in Los Alamos, New Mexico is brewing up one of the highest-elevation events in the country for beer lovers with their first annual “Beer Fiesta” on July 27 at Pajarito Ski Mountain.
Because Pajarito Ski Mountain sits at an elevation above 9,000 feet, this is one of the highest elevation beer fiestas in the nation and sure to be a high-spirited one.
The “Beer Fiesta” is sponsored by the Los Alamos Beer Co-op, which now has more than 140 members.
The fiesta is the first anniversary celebration. “In the ‘City Where Discoveries are Made,’ it’s only fitting that Los Alamos offer a unique event where beer lovers can experience high quality New Mexico made brews while discovering all the wonderful features of Los Alamos and Pajarito Ski Mountain,” said Micheline Devaurs, President of Los Alamos Beer Co-op. “Members of the Co-op are on the way to realizing their goal of locally crafted beer, and hope to continue growing interest and membership at this important summer event and milestone for us — we hope to see lots of people there, enjoying both beer and the ski hill.”
From 2 to 7 p.m., beer lovers can try a number of handcrafted beers from several New Mexico microbreweries including: Marble Brewery, Second Street Brewery, La Cumbre Brewing Company, Turtle Mountain Brewing Company, and Santa Fe Brewing Company.
Entry is $10 per person, cash only, and includes one beer. Beers will also be sold individually by vendors. Tickets can be purchased on site at Pajarito Ski Mountain.
Local band DK and the Affordables will perform live rock n’ roll music from 3 to 7 p.m. and food will be available for purchase at Pajarito Mountain Café from noon to 4 p.m.
Pajarito Mountain’s summer ski lift is open from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and offers breathtaking views of the Jemez Mountains. Guests can participate in a “hike and bike” where lifts will take riders along Aspen Lift — with a peak elevation of 10,331 — and riders can hike or bike down.
Lift tickets are reduced to $25 for “Beer Fiesta” on July 27 and on summer Saturdays including: Aug. 10, Aug. 24, Sept. 14, and Sept. 28.
All other days, ticket prices can be found at skipajarito.com/lift_tickets.php.
Free shuttle service is available every half hour between noon and 8 p.m. from Sullivan Field at Los Alamos High School to Pajarito Ski Mountain’s Ski Hill. Sullivan Field is located at 1300 Diamond Dr. in Los Alamos. Several Los Alamos hotels are offering 10 percent discounts to “Beer Fiesta” participants who show bracelets upon check in.
