New Mexico Game and Fish were called in to respond to several bear sightings reported to police Wednesday.

The first call came in at 1:45 a.m., in the 1000 block of Canyon Road, Lt. Reggie Briggle said.

To divert the large bear lumbering around that area, officiels fire rounds of rubber buckshot, which chased the furry animal back down into the canyon.

At 7:29 p.m., Game and Fish agents tranquilized and captured another bear on Camino Uva on North Mesa.

That bear has already been relocated into the wild, Briggle said.

A third bear was sighted by residents on Camino Encantado.

Came and Fish have a large horizontal barrel trap set up in that area, which contains an aromatic bait to attract bears wandering in the area.

When the bear enters the trap to eat the bait, it can't get out, Briggle said.

Once trapped, Game and Fish will release the animal in an area well away from the townsite.
