Today 

Downtown Dogs. A weekly walking group for dogs and humans. The walk starts from Pet Pangaea at 6 p.m. on Thursday nights for a stroll around downtown Los Alamos. Bring a leash, no longer than six feet.

 

Authors Speak Series. Steven F. Havill. Novelist will discuss recently released “Night Zone, a Posadas County mystery.” 7 p.m. at the Mesa Public Library Upstairs Rotunda. 

 

Book signing and discussion. “New Mexico’s High Peaks,” by Mike Butterfield. 4 p.m. at the Los Alamos Historical Society.  

 

Eureka! at Fuller Lodge Art Center. Artistic interpretations of discovery by a variety of local artists in a variety of media. The Portal Gallery features the work of Katherine Brittin and Charryl Berger. Daily through July 26. 

 

The Paintings of Ryszard Wasilewski. Opening Reception from 4:30-6:30 p.m. July 11. Upstairs in the Mesa Public Library Gallery. Daily through Aug. 5.

Friday

Scientists in the Spotlight. 5-7:30 p.m. at the Bradbury Science Museum. Meet the scientists from the Los Alamos Scientist Ambassador Academy program, who will offer up informal demonstrations and conversations covering topics like sea ice melting, static electricity and space travel that are appropriate for any age.

 

Gordon’s Summer Concert Series. Ray Wylie Hubbard, with opening act the Bill Hearne Trio. 7-10 p.m. at Ashley Pond. 

 

Saturday

Mobile pet adoption sponsored by Friends of the Shelter. 10 a.m.-2 p.m. in front of the new Smith’s Marketplace. 

 

Bradbury Science Museum Cinema. 10:30 a.m. every Saturday. Short science films ranging in topics from microbes to aquifers to addiction. The education level of these videos can range from elementary age to adults. Visit lanl.gov/museum/events/calendar.shtml for topics of interest.

 

The Los Alamos Beer Co-op presents the Second Annual Beer Fiesta. Noon-6 p.m. at Pajarito Mountain. Hiking, biking, beer and live music from Felix y Los Gatos. $10. Shuttles from Sullivan Field every half until 7 p.m. For more information, visit losalamosbeer.coop.

WGN America’s “Manhattan” series viewing and community discussion. 7 p.m. (for premiere episode, subsequent episodes air at 8 p.m.) at Time Out Pizzeria. The Historical Society will host viewings of the episodes, followed by an hour-long community discussion. Refreshments will be provided. Nature Playtimes Sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Mexico. 10-11 a.m. Toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers come to PEEC to explore the natural world.
