The Los Alamos Historical Society’s Made in New Mexico Series concludes with “Exploring Mars with the Curiosity Rover,” by Dr. Nina Lanza. The lecture follows the annual meeting with begins at 6:30 p.m. Lanza will speak at 7:30 p.m. at Fuller Lodge.

Thursday
Los Alamos Farmers Market. 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Mesa Public Library parking lot. This week only: lamb and beef from Ranchline for the month of May, to pre-order call 323-420-6897. New vendor will have New Mexico raised shrimp.

The Los Alamos Federated Republican Women will have its regular monthly meeting, 12:30 p.m. at ZIA Realty conference room (upstairs) and then move to the Municipal Building for a tour of the County Council Chambers with an opportunity to speak with Republican councilors. All registered Republican women are invited. Members are reminded to bring non-perishable food items and toiletries for the Esperanza Shelter in Santa Fe. The Los Alamos Genealogical Association will meet 7 p.m. at the Mesa Public Library. The two-part program, “Additional Genealogical Programs to use with Family Search and with Ancestry.com.” Kent Parsons and Irma Holtkamp will present the program. The public is invited. The traditional no-host dinner will be held at China Moon at 5:30 p.m. before the meeting.

The 18th Annual Los Alamos Arts Council Kite Festival. 7 p.m. at Overlook Park in White Rock. Event will open with the Gordon’s Summer Concert. There will be a lighted kite flying demonstration, food vendors and free kite building workshops for children. Each child receives a free T-shirt after building a kite. Sponsored by Los Alamos National Bank.

“Avenue Q” presented by the Los Alamos Little Theatre and the Dixon Community Players. 7:30 p.m. at the Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar St. Tickets $14, $12 for seniors and students. Tickets can be purchased in advanced at lalt.org or at CB Fox, and at the door day of the show.
Saturday
Plant sale sponsored by the Los Alamos Garden Club. 8 a.m.-noon at 811 Tiffany Ct. More than 200 plants to sell, along with flowers, herbs, pots, etc.

End of the Year 6th Grade Dance. Open to all sixth graders from 7-9 p.m. at Pueblo Gym on Diamond Drive. Admission is $3. Volunteers are needed who are a parent of a sixth grade student attending the dance. Students of chaperones get in free. Call 662-9412 no later than May 14 to volunteer. Dance is sponsored by the Youth Activity Center, a program of the Los Alamos Family Council.
