Poetry gatherings. 6:30 p.m. at the Southwest Room at the Mesa Public Library. 

 

The Los Alamos Writers Group meets on the second Thursday during November and December from 7-8:30 p.m. at Morning Glory Bakery, 1377 Diamond Drive, across from the high school. Visitors are welcome to attend.

“Into the Mind” movie premiere. 6 p.m. at Duane Smith Auditorium.  

Saturday

Wreaths Across America Ceremony, hosted by the Los Alamos American Legion Riders. 10 a.m. at Guaje Pine Cemetery. Wreaths Across America is a national program designed to honor fallen veterans of all wars at national, state and local cemeteries. The mission is to remember, honor, teach, in part by coordinating wreath laying ceremonies in December at national cemeteries, as well as veterans’ cemeteries and other locations in all 50 states, ceremonies at sea, and 24 national cemeteries on foreign soil.

Los Alamos Family Council Holiday Fete. Food, dancing and a silent auction. 7:30 to 10 p.m. at Fuller Lodge. $40 per person, $20 of which goes to programs of Los Alamos Family Council in support of community behavior health and the Youth Activitiy Centers. For more information call 662-4160.

Nature Playtimes at PEEC. 10-11 a.m. Toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers come to PEEC to explore the natural world.  Each Playtime features a story and stations centered around a theme, as well as outside time. The Rotary Club of Los Alamos meets noon to 1 p.m. at Dixie Girl. The LAHS String Quartet. will perform seasonal holiday music. For more information call 662-7950.  

 

The League of Women Voters’  monthly Lunch with A Leader for the community is 11:40 a.m. at the Mesa Public Library. Robert Westervelt, Deputy Utility Manager of Finance and Administration is the speaker.  Julie Williams-Hill, who works with the Smart Meter Study as part of the customer service will also be presenting some of the issues that customers have been calling and asking her about. Brown Bag Lecture. Bruce Masse — The great comet of A.D. 1264. Noon to 1 p.m. at the Bradbury Science Museum.  

 

Los Alamos Community of Atheists will have their monthly meeting 6:30 to 8 p.m. upstairs at Mesa Public Library. This month’s topic will be a second look at Pascal’s wager — is it a defensible argument for the belief in god? One of the members says it is, come find out why. Winter Tree Care. 6:30 to 8 p.m. Certified arborist Laural Hardin is back at PEEC to talk about all the things you can do to help trees survive the winter and come out strong in the spring. She will cover topics such as water, tree wrap, and basic pruning. The presentation will also consider how changing climate effects tree dormancy, and what can be done to boost tree vigor and growth. This talk focuses mostly on non-native urban trees, but will include Ponderosa, Piñon and Juniper. $8 or $6 for PEEC members. No advance registration is required. The Juvenile Justice Advisory Board’s next meeting will be 6 p.m. in building No. 1, Camino Entrada Road, Pajarito Cliffs Site. Kris Raber and Pam Houghteling, social workers at the Los Alamos Medical Center, will give a presentation about issues they address with youth in the Emergency Room. The public is welcome to attend.

 

LANL’s 70th Anniversary Evening Lecture Series. Jon Ventura “Stockpile Stewardship: Keeping the Nation’s Stockpile Safe, Secure, and Reliable with Science and Engineering.”  5:30 to 7 p.m. This is the final lecture in Los Alamos National Laboratory’s 70th Anniversary lecture series.
