The December Juvenile Justice Advisory Board Meeting
will be from 6-7:30 p.m. at the Los Alamos Community Building, east end of Ashley Pond. Please plan to attend this event to thank Con Alma/Northern New Mexico Health Grant Group for continued support of JJAB and local agency programs.Pizza and refreshments will be served. There will also be a door prize.
The League of Women Voters is hosting a forum on the structure of government from 7-9 p.m. at Fuller Lodge, refreshments at 6:30 p.m. Do we want an elected mayor? Non-partisan elections? Should the boards and commissions be non-partisan? Should the county be divided into districts instead of having all Council members at-large? These are questions to consider as we listen to the invited speakers. This forum has been organized by the Charter Review Committee. The speakers are Karen Walker, who participated in the creation of Santa Fe’s City Charter and James Svara, professor of Public Affairs at Arizona State University and Director of the Center for Urban Innovation.
The annual crèche exhibit, a free community event, will be from 1-7:30 p.m. at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 4. Refreshments are provided. There will be a separate touching room where the children will find touchable nativities such as crocheted nativities and finger puppets and they can color their own creche.
The Los Alamos Garden Club annual Christmas wreath sale starts at 9 a.m. in the Los Alamos National Bank lobby. The sale lasts until all wreaths are sold.
The Nutcracker is a perennial holiday favorite that follows Clara on her journey through a winter wonderland to the Kingdom of Sweets. Audiences of all ages are welcome to usher in the holiday season with Dance Arts Los Alamos in this beloved tradition set to Tchaikovsky’s classic score at 7 p.m. Dec. 3 and 2 p.m. Dec. 4-5 at the Duane Smith Auditorium. Tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors and students.
Parents are invited to drop their children off while they shop for holiday gifts from 9 a.m.-noon at the Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church for the 8th annual Children’s Christmas Bazaar. The Bazaar is open to kids from Kindergarten-6th grade. Visit latoth.org for more information.
The Los Alamos Geological Society presents its Earth Treasure Show from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Dec. 4 and from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Dec. 5 at the Masonic Temple, Canyon Road and 15th Street. The show will feature a silent auction, geode sawing, door prizes, kids craft, wheel of fortune, mineral ID, jewelry, fossils, books, food and more. Free admission.
The holidays wouldn’t be the same without the buzz of shopping, which is why the Christmas Craft Fair is an opportunity to purchase one-of-a-kind gifts. The Fair will take place 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish Hall and Grounds, located at 3700 Canyon Road in Los Alamos.
The Children’s Christmas Bazaar will be from 9 a.m.-noon at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr. The event is for children in Kindergarten-6th grade, who may purchase gifts for friends and family at reasonable prices and have them gift-wrapped.
The Affordable Arts Holiday Celebration runs through Jan. 3 and is a great venue to purchase affordable arts and crafts from more than 120 northern New Mexico artists.
