The Los Alamos Elks Lodge, with assistance from the VFW and American Legion, will host the annual community Thanksgiving dinner from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Elk’s Lodge. A book fair to benefit the Los Alamos Medical Center Auxiliary will be from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Nov. 30 and from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Dec. 1 in the mail lobby area of LAMC.
Bring a song to sing for tryouts at 7 p.m. Dec. 1 and 1 p.m. Dec. 3 at the Unitarian Church 1328 Sage. A new musical, the World Premier of “Petra and the Jay,” will be produced April 13 and 14, 2012. The story is set 20 years after “U.F.F.D.U.H.” in 3020 C.E., featuring aliens from that Little Theatre production. Cast includes 13 speaking and/or singing parts and a chorus. “Green Fire” film about the life and work of Aldo Leopold and his effect on the conservation movement of today. Showing is at 6 p.m. at the Reel Deal. Cost is $10 for adults and $5 for children and teens, at the door. A benefit for the Pajarito Environmental Education Center.
The annual Christmas Craft Fair at Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish will be from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Stop by and have pancakes with bacon or sausage, shop for Christmas gifts, have lunch and shop some more. Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church is in need of new or like-new items for this year’s Children’s Christmas Dec. 3. Suggested donations are unopened lotions, soaps, bath toys, dolls, stuffed animals, action figures, games, gloves, scarves, mittens, gadgets, small tools, knick knacks, jewelry, neckties, ornaments and Christmas decorations, handkerchiefs, kitchen items, trivets, figurines, paperweights, toys, baby toys. Gifts for men are especially needed. Items need to be a reasonable size for gift-wrapping and should be dropped off by Dec. 1 at Curves for Women, 967 Central Ave., during business hours or at Trinity on the Hill Episcopal Church, 3900 Trinity Dr. A donation box is located inside the door by the upper parking lot. The annual North Pole workshop and Luminaria Walk will be from 5-7 p.m. at the North Mesa Stables. Dress warmly, wear walking shoes and enjoy the North Mesa Stables lit up with luminaries and holiday lights. Afterward, head to the Posse Lodge for professional digital photos with Santa and his elves, warm drinks, light refreshments and a holiday craft. Fee for photos with Santa is $5.
The JFK exhibit at the Bradbury Science Museum is ending. The last day to see the exhibit featuring John F. Kennedy’s 1962 visit to Los Alamos will be Dec. 4. Up next is an exhibit commemorating the 70th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor. Watch for details.
Saint Dimitri Orthodox Church will have its annual Holiday Bake Sale of cookies and sweets from traditional Eastern Orthodox lands on Dec. 18. Now is the time to order these holiday specialties made from recipes that have been handed down from mothers to offer a holiday selection. The price is $24.99 per box.
