The Los Alamos Genealogical Association will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in room three at Mesa Public Library. The program will be a presentation by Valerie Hansen, a professional genealogist from Albuquerque, titled, “Mythology of Genealogy: Working with Sources.” The public is invited to attend.
Friday
“Bag Day” week at Jemez Thrift shop in White Rock. The thrift shop is on the west side of Smith’s parking lot, and is open from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. A visitor may take a tall paper bag and fill it with anything in the store for $5. Proceeds fund scholarships for youth.

A blanket drive for homeless women and children in Santa Fe is underway. New and gently used blankets can be dropped off through Nov. 9 at: Piñon Elementary, Los Alamos National Bank in White Rock, Time Out Pizza, the White Rock Library, CB Fox and Bilingual Montessori. Los Alamos Little Theatre presents “The Woman in Black” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9,10,16 and 17; and at 2 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Los Alamos Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar St. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased at CB Fox or at the door.

The Festival of Chocolate will be from 7-9 p.m. at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. The fundraiser offers a plethora of chocolate offerings from the Dixie Girl, the Hill Diner, the Hilltop House Hotel, Morning Glory Baker and more.
Sunday
This year’s Veterans Day Ceremony will be at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post, 1325 Trinity Dr., behind the Hill Diner. Vietnam veterans will be honored. Natural History of Skunks in New Mexico. Hear skunk expert Jerry Dragoo, PhD present information, pictures and stories about his work with these creatures. Dragoo will also talk about behind-the-scenes of the PBS Nature episode, “Is That Skunk?” $5 for individuals, $10 per non-member family. Free to PEEC members. 2 p.m.

“Have You Heard? Hearing Loss and Older Adults,” a free community program, will be at 11 a.m. at the Town Hall in White Rock. Dr. Ian Alexander from ENT Associates of Los Alamos will speak on the basics of hearing — the anatomy of the ear and how natural hearing works, the causes of hearing loss and treatment options. Nov. 14
The Thrift Shop at the United Church is moving to the lower level of Craig Hall and having a grand opening. The store will be open from 8:30 am. to 12:30 p.m. There will be door prizes given throughout the morning and a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.

This month’s Juvenile Justice Advisory Board meeting is scheduled early to avoid the holiday. It will be at 6:15 p.m. in  Building #1, Camino Entrada Road, Pajarito Cliffs Site. The public is welcome to attend.
Nov. 15
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life will hold a volunteer informational meeting to start planning the 2013 Relay For Life of Los Alamos. The organization is seeking walkers, cancer survivors, caregivers and community leaders to help plan the event and recruit participants.
The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series presents “Pocahontas” (G) at 6:30 p.m. in the White Rock Town Hall.
Nov. 18
Birding Trip to Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge. Dave Yeamans will again lead the trip to visit the 8,627-acre Wildlife Refuge, home to more than 250 species of birds and many various habitats.
