Learn ways to document observations, feelings and experiences to provide a simple, but memorable record of travel or nature experiences. The Los Alamos Arts Council presents local students who competed in the Professional Music Teachers of New Mexico competition as the Brown Bag Performance. The free event will be at noon at Fuller Lodge.
Nationally recognized trumpeter Jan McDonald will play at an Italian fundraiser dinner at Trinity on the Hill Church’s Kelly Hall. McDonald directed the ’Topper band for 30 years. Tickets for dinner are $8 for adults and $5 for children 10 and younger. The menu includes a choice of lasagna, fettuccine with a choice of marinara or Alfredo sauces or Asian rice noodles with spicy sauce, salad, bread, cookie and drink. Mesa Public Library presents Christine Chavez, Energy Conservation coordinator of the Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities, at 7 p.m. Chavez will speak on her job and current sustainability initiatives in the county.
Christine Chavez, Los Alamos Dept. of Public Utilities Conservation coordinator, will focus on the utility’s Conservation Program that includes energy and water conservation audits and the upcoming energy and water conservation plan. Come for a free energy conservation kit and to schedule an audit of your home. The talk is at 7 p.m. in the upstairs meeting rooms of Mesa Public Library.
The League of Women Voters will have their monthly Lunch with a Leader at 11:45 a.m. at Mesa Public Library. The leader will be Becky Ehler, the new county attorney. The meal consists of a sandwich or soup and salad and half sandwich and cookie for $10. Those who do not order lunch are welcome to attend. All orders must be received by 7 p.m. Nov. 6.
The Los Alamos Genealogical Association will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in room three at Mesa Public Library. The program will be a presentation by Valerie Hansen, a professional genealogist from Albuquerque, titled, “Mythology of Genealogy: Working with Sources.” The public is invited to attend.
Los Alamos Little Theatre presents “The Woman in Black” at 7:30 p.m. Nov. 9,10,16 and 17; and at 2 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Los Alamos Performing Arts Center, 1670 Nectar St. Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students and can be purchased at CB Fox or at the door.
The Festival of Chocolate will be from 7-9 p.m. at the Betty Ehart Senior Center. The fundraiser offers a plethora of chocolate offerings from the Dixie Girl, the Hill Diner, the Hilltop House Hotel, Morning Glory Baker and more.
This year’s Veterans Day Ceremony will be at 11 a.m. at the American Legion Post, 1325 Trinity Dr., behind the Hill Diner. Vietnam veterans will be honored. Natural History of Skunks in New Mexico. Hear skunk expert Jerry Dragoo, PhD present information, pictures and stories about his work with these creatures. Dragoo will also talk about behind-the-scenes of the PBS Nature episode, “Is That Skunk?” $5 for individuals, $10 per non-member family. Free to PEEC members. 2 p.m.
“Have You Heard? Hearing Loss and Older Adults,” a free community program, will be at 11 a.m. at the Town Hall in White Rock. Dr. Ian Alexander from ENT Associates of Los Alamos will speak on the basics of hearing — the anatomy of the ear and how natural hearing works, the causes of hearing loss and treatment options. The Thrift Shop at the United Church is moving to the lower level of Craig Hall and having a grand opening. The store will be open from 8:30 am. to 12:30 p.m. There will be door prizes given throughout the morning and a ribbon cutting ceremony at 10 a.m.
The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series presents “Pocahontas” (G) at 6:30 p.m. in the White Rock Town Hall.
Birding Trip to Las Vegas National Wildlife Refuge. Dave Yeamans will again lead the trip to visit the 8,627-acre Wildlife Refuge, home to more than 250 species of birds and many various habitats.
