Monster Movie Wednesdays at UNM-LA will feature “The Invisible Man” at 6 p.m. in the UNM-LA Lecture Hall in Building 2. The movie is free and open to the public.
The Los Alamos Republican Women will elect officers for 2011-2012 at their 7 p.m. meeting at the Republican Headquarters,146 Central Park Square. Betty Cox will present a program on the history of Women’s Right to Vote. For information JoAnn Johnson, 662-7981.

Poetry gatherings will be at 6:30 p.m. in the upstairs rotunda at Mesa Public Library.

The White Rock Family Friendly Film Series continues with “Secret of Kells,” at 7 p.m. at the White Rock Town Hall.

The Los Alamos Genealogical Association will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. in room 3 of the Mesa Public Library. The program will be “Diary of a Civil War Soldier” by Lud and Lois Gritzo. The public is invited. For more information call Jodie Frye at 662-3381. There will be no November meeting due to Veteran’s Day and no December meeting due to the holidays.
Children’s Montessori Preschool will host its second annual Fall Fest “Fun”raiser from 9-11 a.m. at 1060 Nugget St. Fun will include a Halloween costume sale, arts and crafts booths, carnival games and a bounce house. All proceeds from this event will to the CMPS Scholarship fund. For more information call 661-4018.

The Los Alamos Piecemakers Quilt Guild will sponsor the 2010 Quilt Market from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Baptist Church in Los Alamos, during which quilted “treasures” will be up for sale.

The 6th annual Dances of India benefit performance will be at 4 p.m. at the Duane Smith Auditorium. This year a dance drama will be featured and classical, folk and other dances have been woven into a story. Admission is free, but a donation is requested. This year all proceeds will benefit “Jagruti Seva Sanstha” - an organization for under-privileged women and children based in Pune, India.

 The 2010 Mayor’s Ball will benefit Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern New Mexico. Tickets are now on sale for $150 per ticket or $1,500 per table (10 guests). The Los Alamos Concert Association kicks off their 2010-2011 season at 4 p.m. at the Duane Smith Auditorium, with a concert featuring two American artists, cellist Julie Albers and pianist Orion Weiss. Tickets for the concert may be purchased in advance for $30 at Otowi Station Book Store and CB Fox Department Store, in White Rock at Smith’s and in Santa Fe at Nicholas Potter Bookseller. Tickets may also be purchased at the door for $35.  

The following students will perform on the Los Alamos Music Teachers Association’s Musicale at 2 p.m. in the UNM-LA Student Union. The program is free and open to the public. The performers are Devon Conradson,  Kelsey Bowen, Kristin Fassbender, Sami Filer, Kevin Gao, Victor Kim, Irene Kwon, Mariela Melgar, Yana Outkin, Jin Park, Camille Rousculp, Joseph Sarrao,  Jacob Torrez, Rachael Wallstrom, Jennifer Wang and Hao Wei. The students study with Charlene Cox-Clifton, Sarah Kelly, Lynn Lamb, Frances Naffziger, Greg Schneider, Ellen Scudder, Janna Warren and Madeline Williamson.
