The Los Alamos Genealogical Association will meet at 7 p.m. at the Mesa Public Library. The public is invited. There is also a free genealogical conference in Albuquerque on Sept. 14. Saturday
The Next Big Idea Festival. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. in downtown Los Alamos. The Bradbury Science Museum will have a booth at the festival where kids can tinker with gadgets and see how they work.

Sec Sandoval Chalk Walk. In conjunction with the Next Big Idea. Registration begins at 10 a.m. Each square will be rented for $5. Pick up an application full of details about the event at the LAAC office in Fuller Lodge, where preregistration is ongoing, or print out the application. Drawings should be completed by 12:30 p.m.

Friends of the Shelter will have a mobile adoption for smaller dogs, in conjunction with the Next Big Idea event. 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the south lawn of Fuller Lodge. There will be a kissing booth and a reduced fee microchip clinic.

Group meeting to help people of the community deal with grief. The group will meet Monday evenings, 6:30 to 8 p.m., in the Lounge of the Christian Education Building of the United Church (entrance off Rose Street) and discussions will be led by Pastor Kathleen Logan. Nature Playtimes at PEEC. 10-11 a.m. Toddlers, preschoolers and their caregivers come to PEEC to explore the natural world. Rotary Club of Los Alamos. Cassidy Gardner will give a presentation about her year in The Netherlands on a Rotary Youth Exchange. 11:45 a.m. at Dixie Girl.

Lunch with a Leader. The League of Women Voters will have Kimberly Gabaldon County Community Services Department division manager at their monthly meeting that is open to the public. The lunch is on at 11:45 a.m. at Mesa Public Library. To order a lunch from the Co-op for $10, call Karyl Ann Armbruster 661-6605 by Sept. 15. You do not have to order a lunch to attend.
