The Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce will hold a FAN Club from 5:30-7 p.m. for Los Alamos Visiting Nurses, at 2202 Canyon Road.
The Los Alamos Farmers Market will be from 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m. in the Mesa Public Library parking lot.
Family Game Night at Mesa Public Library. Join the geeks and gamers from 5:30-8:30 p.m. in the upstairs rotunda for game boards galore. All ages welcome, please bring a parent or another adult if you’re 12 or younger.
W.O.L.F. Foundation at PEEC. Elke Duerr of the Web of Life Foundation will talk about the Mexican Gray Wolf. This will be a hands-on, interactive presentation, for all ages. Summer Family Evenings: Duck Buddies. An interactive presentation all about ducks. Learn about wild and domestic ducks, make a duck footprint, do duck crafts and meet live ducks. Registration for the next session of dog training classes offered by the Los Alamos Dog Obedience Club will begin Sept 4. Classes this session include Puppy Kindergarten, Basic Manners, Beginning Agility, Beginning Rally, Recall, Competitive Obedience, Conformation and the parRENT Free Club (for kids) and will begin the week of Sept 24. Class schedule, registration guidelines and registration form will be available at ladoc.dogbits.com and at the LADOC building, 246 East Road. Registration is first-come, first-served and classes often fill quickly. Registration materials must be postmarked by Sept 14.
Nature Detectives and Outdoor Explorers Clubs. Club members will discover some of nature’s best-kept secrets through investigations of local plants and animals in the Pajarito Plateau. A variety of activities will be designed for Nature Detectives (K-1st graders) and Outdoor Explorers (second-third graders). Program runs on Tuesdays from 3:45-5:15 p.m. Sept. 4–Nov. 27. $113/$90 for members or second siblings. Monica Witt, Utilities and Institutional Facilities Energy manager at LANL will give a talk at 7 p.m. in upstairs meeting rooms 2 and 3 at Mesa Public Library. Witt has worked at LANL for 10 years in the environmental and energy management fields. She will discuss the federal sustainability requirements and what LANL is working on to meet energy, water and greenhouse gas reduction goals. The program is co-sponsored by the Sierra Club and the Los Alamos Sustainability Network.
Bird Banding Talk at PEEC by local birder Dave Yeamans. Learn how scientists use banding methods to track and study birds around the world. First Friday Forts at PEEC. Come to PEEC and get building. On the first Friday of every month, join other kids (and their parents) who like building forts, then play and hang out in the new place you created. The Square Dance Club will host a kick-off party with some basic square dance instruction, dancing and sloppy Joes, salad, desserts and refreshments from 6:30-9 p.m. at the Betty Ehart Senior Center.
LALT will host a theater workshop on “Play Structure Analysis” taught by Shep Sobel from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., with an hour for lunch.
