Cult Classic Horror Movie Series presents “The Descent” at 9:30 p.m. at Mesa Public Library.

 Framing Nature: Photography Workshop with Leslie Bucklin and Pajarito Environmental Education Center. This field-oriented workshop is about taking images that stretch your imagination and communicate the beauty, drama and feeling of nature. Explore your creativity, expand your skills and enhance your understanding of the photographic process from capture to output. The beginning and end of the workshop will focus on composition, light and color and reviews of participant images, as well as Q & A. The workshop will include a hike to take nature photos. Bring water, walking shoes and a camera. Taught by Leslie Bucklin, photographer and owner of Quaking Aspen Fine Art Photography. The Pajarito Astronomers will hold a county-sponsored Dark Night at 8:30 p.m. at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park. Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes and star gaze. The planets Mercury, Mars, Saturn and its rings, Neptune and Uranus will be visible. There will be a tour of the summer constellations and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.  Viewing will end before midnight. Call Steve Becker at 662-3252 for information.

Summer Family Evenings at PEEC: Raptor Center Visit. Meet live raptors from the Santa Fe Raptor Center at PEEC, including their newest bird, a Mississippi Kite. Learn about the lives of these beautiful birds and how they came to be education animals. Free for PEEC members, $5 donation to the Raptor Center for non-member families. No registration required. The Los Alamos Garden Club is going to the Santa Fe Botanical Gardens Wetlands for a tour and lunch. They will carpool and leave Los Alamos at 10:30 a.m. everyone is invited to join them. Call Sally at 662-9473 for more information, or to attend.
