Summer Family Evenings at PEEC: Harrell House of Natural Oddities’ Bug Zoo. Come to a show from the Harrell House of Natural Oddities. They’ll bring a selection of live critters, including tarantulas, scorpions, insects, centipedes, crabs and more. First of a series of three fly tying classes with Bill Orr. Join Orr, author of “Fly Patterns of Northern New Mexico” for this three-session workshop. Participants will make a minimum of six patterns that work well in New Mexico, with more made if time allows. Class will meet from 6:30-8:30 p.m. Wednesdays July 11, 18 and 25. Orr has been tying flies for 40 years, both privately and professionally. $75 or $60 PEEC members for all classes and materials. Cult Classic Horror Movie Series presents “The Descent” at 9:30 p.m. at Mesa Public Library.
Framing Nature: Photography Workshop with Leslie Bucklin and Pajarito Environmental Education Center. This field-oriented workshop is about taking images that stretch your imagination and communicate the beauty, drama and feeling of nature. Explore your creativity, expand your skills and enhance your understanding of the photographic process from capture to output. The beginning and end of the workshop will focus on composition, light and color and reviews of participant images, as well as Q & A. The workshop will include a hike to take nature photos. Bring water, walking shoes and a camera. Taught by Leslie Bucklin, photographer and owner of Quaking Aspen Fine Art Photography. The Pajarito Astronomers will hold a county-sponsored Dark Night at 8:30 p.m. at Spirio Soccer Field, Overlook Park. Weather permitting, the public is invited to come out, wander among the telescopes and star gaze. The planets Mercury, Mars, Saturn and its rings, Neptune and Uranus will be visible. There will be a tour of the summer constellations and there will be telescope views of double stars, star clusters, nebulae and galaxies. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
